Sauvignon Blanc
The high aroma and easy recognizability make this variety a very popular companion for any situation. As with Chardonnay, there are detractors, but the number of lovers certainly prevails. Again, it can be divided into two distinct styles, the first and original being found in the Sancerre and Pouilly Fumé regions of France, which give a more mineral and less fruity style, on the other hand, the now very popular 'New Zealand' Sauvignon style, which has very high aromas of peach, gooseberry and lime. This style is also favoured in California, with the St. Supéry winery providing an ideal example, while a reference to the European variant can be found in the form of Peter Franus' Sauvignon Blanc, ideally in an older vintage.
