Shafer Vineyards
Shafer Vineyards is an iconic family winery founded in 1978 by the Shafer family in the Stags Leap District of Napa Valley.
The vineyards that the winery farms are among the top 25 vineyards in the world according to Robert Parker Jr.
The winery has long been managed by Doug Shafer, son of the original founders. Last year, he took the major step of selling the winery (for $160 million) to his importer in South Korea. A condition of the deal was to maintain the winery's existing staff and preserve the quality of the wines produced. This left Doug free to focus on what he loves - working in the vineyards and representing the winery he helped build.
Elias Fernandez is the guarantee of producing excellent wines. Longtime head winemaker of the winery and a legend in the California wine industry. Elias is a walking encyclopedia of enology and is a recognized expert with undeniable talent. The proof is in the frequent 100-point scores for Hillside Select Cabernet Sauvignon, the winery's flagship wine. The winemaking team under his direction cultivates more than 200 acres of vineyards to produce great wines such as Red Shoulder Ranch Chardonnay, TD-9, One Point Five Cabernet Sauvignon, Relentless and the aforementioned Hillside Select.
