Mount Eden Vineyards
Mount Eden Vineyards is a small, historic 2,000-foot wine estate overlooking Silicon Valley in the Santa Cruz Mountain appellation, about 50 miles south of San Francisco. Founded in 1945, it is recognized as one of California's original "boutique" wine estates with a focus on limited production of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon varietals. Mount Eden's pedigree of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir is the longest in California. Vines are planted in austere, barren Franciscan slate on the cool, exposed mountaintop, these low-yielding estate vineyards have consistently produced world-class wines for more than half a century. In 2007, Mount Eden acquired an additional 55 acres of winery in the Saratoga foothills - Domaine Eden.
Mount Eden Vineyards also produces non-estate Chardonnay from the Central Coast, primarily the Edna Valley. They have had great success producing Chardonnay from the Wolff Vineyard and are consistently recognized as producers of excellent wines from this area.
Since 1981, Jeffrey Patterson has been running the winery and growing grapes at Mount Eden. His emphasis is on the growing of the wine rather than the actual production, and his obsession with the subtlety and naturalness of handling grapes and wines is his abiding passion.
