Behind Continuum Winery is one of the most famous families in Napa Valley and the world of winemaking in general, the Mondavi family. It all started when Cesare and Rosa Mondavi moved from the Marche region of Italy to Minnesota in 1906. In 1919, during Prohibition, they were buying grapes in California and making wine in Minnesota for their community. The family's turn toward winemaking came with the purchase of Krug Winery, Napa Valley, initiated by Rosa and Cesare's son, Robert. Robert Mondavi had a clear vision to make wines that would stand up to competition from the world's best. His vision came to fruition in 1966 when he opened the Robert Mondavi Winery and helped put California and Napa Valley on the map of the wine world. Unfortunately, in 2004 the Mondavi family had to sell the winery, but winemaking continued and in 2013, under the direction of Robert's children Tim and Marcia, their new winery, Continuum, opened on Sage Mountain. In 2019, the Mondavi family celebrated their 100th continous vintage, continuing the legacy of their ancestors.
