A legend among Napa Valley wineries. A winery that has been producing wine commercially since 1880. The winery was bought in 1972 by John Shafer, who had nothing to do with winemaking until then.

The 2018 Hillside Select is a very rich and energetic wine based on the Cabernet Sauvignon grape. The wine has an attractive nose of blackberry, black cherry, sweet spice and black earth.

The very good 2019 vintage gave grapes that made a wine of dark ruby color with violet reflections. On the nose the wine is intense with notes of dark fruit, spice and smoked paprika. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied with ripe aromas of black fruit, mulberries and blackberries, complemented by notes of dark olive, spice and clove. The firm but ripe tannins along with the zesty acidity predispose the wine to long bottle age. Long and spicy finish.
