You'll recognize it at first glance – an elegant bottle with a distinctive red wax seal that has become the icon of Belle Glos winery. However, it is not just the design that is behind the success of this brand. Belle Glos is primarily the personal story of Joe Wagner, a fifth-generation winemaker and descendant of the famous Wagner family from Caymus Vineyards. It was he who decided to show that Pinot Noir can have depth, nobility, and unmistakable character in California.
Belle Glos brand name honors Joe's grandmother, Lorna Belle Glos Wagner. She was the woman who, in 1972, stood alongside her husband Charlie Sr. and son Chuck at the birth of Caymus Vineyards. Lorna was an inspiration to Joe—she loved Pinot Noir and was able to perceive the elegance of this sensitive wine in a way that still accompanies him in his work today. Dedicating his winery to her was a symbol of Joe's respect for family tradition and the feminine grace she exuded.
Today, Belle Glos stands on coastal terroirs stretching from Sonoma to Santa Lucia, where the Pacific Ocean shapes the climate of the vineyards with fog, wind, and significant temperature differences. It is this rugged coastal beauty that gives the wines their distinctive character. Each of the vineyards—whether Taylor Lane on the cool western edge of the Sonoma Coast, the mineral-rich Glasir Holt, the famous Clark & Telephone with its old Martini clone vines, or the high-altitude Las Alturas—tells its own story. Joe Wagner does not try to "improve" the terroir. On the contrary, he wants to bring out the purest expression of the place where the grapes were grown. That is why each vineyard is cultivated individually so that the result is an authentic reflection of the specific location.
And that this philosophy works is evident from the first sniff and sip. Belle Glos Pinot Noirs are full-bodied and seductive wines with rich fruit expression, velvety texture, and a very modern yet elegant style. Joe Wagner's Californian Pinot Noir is not a delicate introvert, but a confident wine that nevertheless retains its nobility and complexity.
Today, Belle Glos is part of Copper Cane Wines & Provisions, which Joe founded after 2014. It combines wine, design, innovation, and lifestyle. Joe doesn't limit himself to Pinot Noir here—he develops other brands, discovers new locations, and constantly tests the boundaries of how modern wine can taste. While most winemakers focus primarily on the sugar content of the grapes during harvest, Joe works with physiological ripeness, which is one of the pillars of his style. This is where the name Copper Cane comes from – "copper cane" is the color of the vines when they reach ideal ripeness.
Joe Wagner is not your typical winemaker who stays in the vineyard or cellar. He has also become the charismatic face of his brands—and social media has turned him into a global phenomenon. He appears on Instagram as @joethewinemaker, and his videos, especially those where he dips Belle Glos bottles in hot wax, have gone viral. He has tens of thousands of followers, and the brands he represents have collectively achieved more than a billion views.
But it's not just a show. On social media, Joe opens the door to a world that used to be hidden: he shows the real work in the vineyards, the annual cycle of the vines, the harvest, tastings, and moments of searching for new ideas. His style is informal, authentic, and sincere. He doesn't try to play a role, but rather invites fans to share what he enjoys—wine and the work that goes with it.
His podcast, "Go With Your Palate," follows Joe's life motto: go for what you really like. Don't succumb to trends, but explore. And it is this philosophy that he brings to his wines.

Joe Wagner represents the new face of American winemaking. He is rooted in his family's tradition, but at the same time has the courage to innovate, push boundaries, and communicate with the public in a way that is closer to fashion brands than wineries. He creates wines that have a story—family, regional, and personal.
Belle Glos is not just a winery. It is proof that even in today's fast-paced, digital world, wine can still have a soul, an origin, and the personal imprint of the person who creates it.
Although all Belle Glos vineyards are located within reach of the ocean, they differ significantly in terms of fog, wind strength, slope orientation, and soil type. Joe cultivates each vineyard in such a way as to highlight its "essence of place"—a terroir that cannot be imitated. The Balade series is an exclusive line. For this limited edition Pinot Noir, winemakers select the most interesting grapes and use them to make wine. The result is an exclusive Pinot Noir with a rich crimson color and aromas of ostuzhin, sage, and cherries.
Belle Glos creates Pinots that are:
Taylor Lane – Sonoma Coast
A vineyard just six miles from the Pacific Ocean, often shrouded in fog and whipped by the wind. Joe uses a unique "solar" vine training system here—a horizontal trellis that maximizes sunlight and allows sheep to graze between the rows. The Pinot from here is complex, with a firm structure.
Dairyman – Russian River Valley
Cool mornings, long vegetation periods, and alluvial plain soils give rise to small, concentrated berries with cherry character, spiciness, and distinctive minerality. The former dairy farm was planted with Pinot Noir clones from Dijon in 2000.

Eulenloch – Carneros
One of the coolest areas in Napa Valley. Clayey, shallow soils and steady winds from San Pablo Bay create ideal conditions for a refined, layered Pinot with a supple structure and remarkable depth.
Las Alturas – Santa Lucia Highlands
The name means "highlands" – and it is indeed one of the highest places suitable for cultivation in the region. Sandy-clay soils, regular sunshine, and low yields give the wines intensity, richness, and strength. Pinot Noir is balanced and structured, with a slight acidity.
Clark & Telephone – Santa Maria Valley
A historic vineyard established in 1972, planted with the original Martini clone. The fog and winds blowing through the valley from the ocean create some of the best conditions for Pinot Noir in California. The original vines are still the oldest in production in the area. Pinot Noir from this vineyard has a distinctive ruby red color with a rich aroma of ripe cherries complemented by complex flavors of black plums and crushed raspberries.
Glasir Holt – Sta. Rita Hills
Less than 10 miles from the ocean, the vineyard combines limestone slopes, river terraces, and unique soil with a pH of 9.5—almost like crushed chalk. The result is mineral, clean, and distinctly structured Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines.

Belle Glos is a combination of family tradition, modern winemaking, and Joe Wagner's distinctive style. His wines from California's coastal vineyards are not just products—they are stories of the place they come from. And thanks to Joe's authentic presentation on social media, these stories reach billions of people around the world.
