Heavy winter rains, followed by a long period of frost and occasional spring rains promoted healthy growth of the vine canopy. The cooler temperatures during flowering led to a marked variation in the size of the individual fruits, the 'millerandage', which resulted in a convincing tannic structure to the wine. The dry, hot summer arrived later than other areas, putting the Anderson Valley region in a good position for the September harvest.
That's why the 2022 Anderson Valley Pinot Noir is a great example of how a cool-climate region behaves in a period when significant heat is forecast, and the resulting wine has a beautiful, elegant structure with bright acidity layered throughout the mid-palate and an uplifting finish. Notes of nougat, dark cherry and wild strawberry are complemented by hints of fir and underbrush - all showing the complexity and detail that make Anderson Valley so unique. The wine was aged in French oak barrels for 10 months.
